How can rising defence spending also serve as a catalyst for innovation in the Polish economy? This question formed the starting point for the strategic seminar “Defence Investment as a Driver of Innovation”, organised by the Łukasiewicz – ITECH Institute of Innovation and Technology on the day preceding the “Security for Prosperity” conference.

The meeting brought together representatives of public administration, leading think tanks and the private sector. The discussion opened with presentations by Marcin Wroński, a member of Poland’s Fiscal Council, and Steven Everts, Director of the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS). .

The main themes of the discussion included:

Defence Investment as a Driver of Innovation – how can rising defence spending be leveraged to advance research and technological development while strengthening the competitiveness of the Polish economy?

Building Domestic Industrial and Technological Capabilities – how can defence procurement and cooperation with international partners translate into technology transfer, the growth of Polish companies and the development of lasting capabilities to design and upgrade domestically developed solutions?

From Research to Implementation – how can cooperation between public administration, academia and industry be improved, the path from prototype to procurement shortened, and national and European funding instruments used more effectively?

The Łukasiewicz – ITECH Strategic Seminars are a new series of meetings bringing together policymakers, experts and representatives of the private sector. Their aim is to provide a platform for dialogue and the exchange of perspectives on the challenges facing Poland, with particular emphasis on barriers to cross-sector collaboration and bottlenecks that hinder the effective design and implementation of strategic solutions. We aim to foster a space for meaningful dialogue, where different perspectives come together around a shared objective: building long-term development capabilities and strengthening Poland’s security.
