ITECH - A THINK-TANK RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Łukasiewicz – ITECH is an interdisciplinary research and advisory institute with a think-tank profile, bridging academia, Poland’s public administration, business and European institutions.
Poland is approaching a turning point in its development model. The traditional drivers of growth – demographic trends, low labour costs and inexpensive energy – have largely run their course, and the country’s future position will increasingly depend on its ability to develop and deploy home-grown innovations.
Our mission is to provide the knowledge needed to make sound technology-related decisions. We translate the mission of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – strengthening the competitiveness of the Polish economy through innovation – into rigorous analysis.
Our three strategic priorities are defence and security, the energy transition, and the innovation ecosystem. We study the defence industry, civil defence and national resilience, as well as European defence cooperation. We also examine the social and regulatory conditions shaping the energy transition, including the development of nuclear and hydrogen energy.
In addition, we analyse the conditions under which innovation is created and implemented in Poland, focusing on the relationships between institutions, science, capital and regulation.
What distinguishes the Institute is its combination of social science expertise with technological knowledge. As part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – with 22 institutes and 4,500 scientists and engineers – we are uniquely positioned to connect technology experts with those responsible for shaping public policy.
We conduct foresight studies, technology impact assessments and research into the social acceptance of innovation. We publish our findings in reports, policy papers, expert commentaries and academic articles.
Our work also has a strong international dimension, through participation in research consortia and European expert networks.
We believe that technology can thrive only where it enjoys public trust. For this reason, we regard rigour, openness and active engagement in public debate as integral to our mandate.
ŁUKASIEWICZ RESEARCH NETWORK
The Łukasiewicz Research Network, established in 2019, is one of the largest research and development organisations in Europe. Its mission is to develop innovative solutions that strengthen the competitiveness of the Polish economy, support businesses and accelerate the commercialisation of R&D results. Within this ecosystem, Łukasiewicz – ITECH brings a perspective that complements the Network’s technological capabilities with social, institutional and strategic analysis. The Institute examines the conditions under which technologies can be effectively developed, implemented and accepted by users, the market and public institutions.
In doing so, it supports the transition from knowledge and prototypes to solutions that deliver tangible economic and social value.

Łukasiewicz – ITECH acts as a bridge between the research community, public administration, business and international institutions. Its distinctive strength lies in combining the research capabilities of the Łukasiewicz Research Network with the expertise of an analytical and advisory institute: public policy analysis, the development of recommendations, the organisation of expert debates, and the preparation of reports for decision-makers. The Institute goes beyond analysing technologies themselves, examining the regulatory, market, social and geopolitical contexts in which they are developed and deployed. This approach helps reduce implementation risks, strengthen demand for new solutions and more clearly define their value for the economy, the state and society.
