Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster – Activities September 2025

Lake Iron Bridge project “Processing of flotation waste into mineral market products”.

As we reported, the Cluster plans to actively participate in a project on the possibility of using flotation waste from, among other things, Iron Bridge Lake in the areas:

  1. Recovery of metals and non-metals – conducting research activities aimed at recovering secondary raw materials from flotation waste deposits.
  2. Application in construction – developing the possibility of converting mineral fractions into full-value building materials.
  3. Agricultural applications – development of technologies that allow the use of processed waste as mineral fertilizer components.

At this stage, the Cluster has stepped up its efforts to obtain the approvals necessary to launch the project.

Research and development projects involving Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza S.A. and members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster.

Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza S.A. is cooperating with members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster in the area of innovative research and development projects.

As planned and in cooperation with Lukasiewicz – INS, a project application for MUD DECO was submitted in September.

The BEETPACK project – “Innovative use of sugar beet biomass for the production of biodegradable packaging materials and modifiers – as biodegradants for plastics” (KPOD.01.13-IW.10-000U/25), submitted in April, is under evaluation. Currently, in cooperation with Lukasiewicz – IPC , documentation is being prepared for submission of an application for funding from the FENG fund.

Due to the limited resources of the KGS S.A. entity, the K-5 project has been postponed.

Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza S.A. is a strategic partner of the Cluster, with which it is planned to implement further innovation projects and commercialize technologies developed by the institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network in the next 5 years.

Preparatory work is currently underway on the assumptions for R&D projects related to increasing agricultural productivity, which will be carried out in cooperation with this entity.

Cooperation with the Space Technology Park – Research, Development and Innovation Ltd.

The Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster is developing a list of areas for potential cooperation with the Space Technology Park – Research, Development and Innovation Ltd.

Projects on the use of basalt meal in soil improvers and redivivius crop protection products .

Typical agricultural projects involving cluster members (including basalt mache producers) related to the use of basalt mache under Intervention 13.5 – GO EPI projects are being initiated.

Offer for the construction industry. Further intensification of cooperation with the Polish Construction Cluster

The Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster, in cooperation with the Łuksiewicz Business Development Center – ITECH, has been actively cooperating for several years with the Polish Construction Cluster.

It is planned to further deepen and develop cooperation in the implementation of joint initiatives, research and development projects and activities promoting modern technologies and solutions for the construction sector.

Work is underway to implement the recommendations of the Cluster Council. In particular, a model for raising funds by the Cluster is being prepared. The MODEL NAMED: “Coordination / implementation service for the principal” will consist of services:

    • Needs analysis and unit customization.
    • Verification of the readiness of the institution to carry out the task.
    • Organizational support of the contact.
    • Supervision of proper communication and implementation.
    • Formal and substantive counseling (if applicable).

The implementation of the model is expected to allow the cluster to legally and transparently collect fees for bringing entities together, without violating public finance and procurement regulations. It will also allow the cluster to continue not collecting membership fees.

Preliminary work is also underway on the second element recommended by the Cluster Council, i.e. tuning the cluster’s strategy to the increasing monetization opportunities associated with the established and rapidly growing business ecosystem of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster. As recommended by the Cluster Council, this is to be a practical and effective implementation of widening of business ecosystem borders.
