Żelazny Most Lake project “Processing flotation tailings into mineral market products”
Żelazny Most Lake project “Processing flotation tailings into mineral market products”
- Recovery of metals and non-metals – conducting research activities aimed at the recovery of secondary raw materials from flotation tailings deposits.
- Application in construction – development of possibilities for transforming mineral fractions into full-value building materials.
- Agricultural applications – development of technologies enabling the use of processed waste as components of mineral fertilizers.
The project will rely heavily on patents No. 232492 and No. 238072, and it is expected that the project may result in improvements to the technologies protected by these patents which will result in the filing of patents additional to the main patents. The Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster is still at the stage of obtaining formal approvals necessary to start the project.
Cooperation with KGHM S.A. is of a developmental nature, as other solutions in the area of telecommunications and AI applications, which are in the area of interest/demand of KGHM S.A., are also currently being tested in cooperation with cluster members.
You can read about the scale of the planned project, among other things. at this link. We will keep you informed of the results of our efforts to the extent possible.

Cooperation with the Lower Silesian Innovation and Science Park S.A.
Following the signed agreement with the Lower Silesian Park Innovation and Science S.A. (Lower Silesian Innovation and Science Park S.A., areas of common interest have been isolated. A study visit by representatives of the Park to the premises of the Cluster Coordinator in Pulawy is scheduled for September 4, 2025, in order to establish direct operational cooperation.
A visit by members and representatives of the Polish Basalt Technologies cluster to the Lower Silesia Innovation and Science Park S.A. in Wroclaw is planned for September 16, 2025. A list of topics that can be the subject of cooperation is being prepared.
Expanding cooperation with the Space Technology Park – Research, Development and Innovation Ltd.
Z Space Technology Park – Research, Development and Innovation Ltd. agreed to significantly expand activities in offering dual use technology and cooperation for the defense industry.
This is due to the selection of the Space Technology Park, among others, by the Ministry of Defense (as well as DWOT and TSO) as one of the key partners in dronization projects. The area of cooperation also includes projects for KGHM S.A. described elsewhere in the news. The venture exemplifies the benefits of expanding the Cluster’s ecosystem, which aims to increase the added value provided to its members through cooperation with technology partners and the development of innovative areas of operation.

Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza S.A. is cooperating with members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster in the area of innovative research and development projects.
The MUD DECO application is scheduled for submission in mid-September 2025.
The BEETPACK project – “Innovative use of sugar beet biomass for the production of biodegradable packaging materials and modifiers – as biodegradants for plastics” (KPOD.01.13-IW.10-000U/25), submitted in April, is under evaluation. Documentation is currently being prepared for submission of an application for FENG funding.
Arrangements related to the organization of a consortium within the framework of the project “Program for the fight against weevil” are continuing . It is planned to submit applications for funding under the FENG Program – SMART Path(value of R&D work: a minimum of PLN 3 million) and RDP – Intervention.
Due to the limited resources of the KGS S.A. entity, the K-5 project has been postponed.
Members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster have begun work on finding a solution to the problems reported by KGS S.A. Climate warming has caused the beet armyworm (Scrobipalpa ocellatella), hitherto little known in Poland, to start spreading in our agricultural fields. The beetle mossy beetle is expanding its range more and more intensively. Until recently, it was a problem in the southeastern part of Poland, but this area has now expanded considerably. Mosquito bark beetle poses a real problem of destruction of plantations during the period of seed germination and plant emergence – in the current season in the Company’s areas about 3tys ha. A preliminary proposal for a solution has been presented/proposed, where the entity responsible for the research part and the leader of the project would be the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Organic Industry in Warsaw. Similar to the weevil control program, proposals are being analyzed for the control of beet beetle and mosquito borer, using Carbon Removal | Enhanced Rock Weathering . A preliminary solution plan is being developed, which, once the KGS S.A. Board of Directors accepts the proposal presented by members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster, will imply the signing of a letter of intent and the creation of an EPI Group and the launch of a project under Intervention 13.5 – GO EPI projects.

Representatives and members of the cluster plan to participate in the conference: “Supporting the implementation of Intervention 13.5 – GO EPI projects as a way to develop agriculture”, which will be held on September 16-17, 2025 in Wroclaw. This is a continuation of cooperation with KSOWPLUS of which we are a partner.
Offer for the construction industry. Intensifying cooperation with the Polish Construction Cluster
In September, representatives of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster plan to meet with the Board of the Polish Construction Cluster during the conference “Together we build more.” which will be held on September 15, 2025 in Warsaw.
The meeting will be related to the intensification of cooperation between members of the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster and members of the Polish Construction Cluster. Polish Construction Cluster is the largest Polish cluster with which we have been cooperating for several years as an institute of the Łukasiewicz Research Network (Łukasiewicz Business Development Center – ITECH) and as a cluster.
Offer to the defense industry
The Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster has presented an offer for the defense industry. The offer includes raw materials and materials for the industries of the Defense Cluster members, as well asdual use technologies– including basalt technologies.
Current status: the first applications have already been submitted for the Shield East , and preparations are underway to submit more. This requires detailing talks and signing of relevant NDAs. Submitted applications include mobile critical communications, and those planned, for example, energy storage. In the submitted proposals, the Polish Basalt Technologies Cluster is mostly indicated as a structure that can provide R&D services, or advanced technologies and materials. Some of the proposals submitted by members for finished products, e.g. basalt fabrics, are being clarified and relevant tests are planned. We will report on the results obtained on an ongoing basis and, due to the nature of the projects, on a possible scale.

Collaboration of Cluster members on the formulation of cement adhesives
Green Sequest together with Lukasiewicz – Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials is working on new formulations of cementitious adhesives using antigorite. The goal is to reduce the amount of cement in the formulation while maintaining or even improving technical performance. The first results of the research are promising and show that it is possible to create solutions that will bring financial and environmental benefits.
