What role does Łukasiewicz – ITECH aspire to play among Poland’s leading analytical institutions? How do we plan to build our position as a modern think tank? These were the questions we addressed during the meeting of the Łukasiewicz – ITECH Institute Council, which above all served as an opportunity to present our ambitions, strategic direction, and the research initiatives that will shape the Institute’s activities in the coming year.
Ambitions and Strategic Directions
The Institute Council meeting was dedicated to presenting the research, publication and expert activities planned by Łukasiewicz – ITECH. While there was also an opportunity to review the Institute’s key achievements of recent months, the primary focus of this meeting was on the future and on sharing our vision for the Institute’s continued development. Over the past few years, the Institute has consistently strengthened its position as an analytical and expert center focused on security, energy transition, technological development, innovation, and public policy design. During the meeting, we presented the next steps that will enable us to respond even more effectively to the challenges facing Poland and Europe.
Six Goals Shaping Our Future
The starting point of the presentation was a reminder of the six strategic goals of Łukasiewicz – ITECH, which form the foundation of the Institute’s activities. These goals include strengthening the state’s strategic capabilities, expanding the Institute’s expert influence on public debate, building partnerships and fostering collaboration between science, business and public administration through initiatives such as the EUSI Policy Dialogues and expert breakfast meetings, increasing the international visibility of Polish analytical thought while drawing inspiration from solutions developed abroad, supporting the development of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, and continuously enhancing the quality of research and expert competencies.
Based on these priorities, the Institute presented the development plans of its individual research centres, along with the key initiatives and projects planned for the year ahead.
Three Research Centres, One Shared Agenda
Council members were presented with the plans of the Center for Security and Defense Innovation, the Energy Transition Research Center, and the Technology Analysis and Development Center. During the meeting, representatives of each centre outlined their priority research areas, major projects, and initiatives that will shape the Institute’s work in the year ahead.
A common theme underpinning all these activities is the generation of knowledge and policy recommendations that contribute to the development of the state, the economy, and society, while enhancing Poland’s resilience in the face of future challenges.
The Institute also aims to foster closer cooperation among its three research centres, creating opportunities for the exchange of expertise and knowledge and encouraging the development of interdisciplinary initiatives that can provide comprehensive responses to the complex challenges confronting Poland and Europe.
An important part of the presentation was also devoted to the Institute’s publication and outreach plans. In the year ahead, Łukasiewicz – ITECH will continue to expand its portfolio of reports, analyses, scientific publications, and expert papers, while further developing events designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and foster dialogue among representatives of government, academia, and industry.
Collaboration as a Driver of Growth
During the discussion, Prof. Jolanta Itrich-Drabarek, Vice President of the Łukasiewicz Center, highlighted the importance of collaboration, emphasizing the need to share knowledge, break down organizational silos, and pursue joint research projects. She also underscored the growing importance of European engagement. The Łukasiewicz Research Network is already among the largest Polish beneficiaries of the Horizon Europe programme, yet its ambitions extend far beyond its current achievements. The development trajectory of Łukasiewicz – ITECH is fully aligned with these aspirations, placing international cooperation, research excellence, and participation in European initiatives at the heart of its future growth.
Upcoming Łukasiewicz – ITECH Events
The Council meeting also provided an opportunity to invite participants to the Institute’s upcoming events. On 14 October 2026, Łukasiewicz – ITECH will host its annual conference Security for Prosperity, dedicated to exploring the relationship between security, innovation, and economic development. This will be followed by the next expert breakfast meeting on 20 October 2026, bringing together experts, policymakers, and business representatives to discuss Poland’s energy security and the future development of the country’s nuclear energy policy. Council members were also invited to Horizon4Poland, a full-day event taking place on 3 November 2026. Once again, the conference will bring together representatives of academia, industry, and public administration interested in building international partnerships and making the most of the opportunities offered by the Horizon Europe programme.
Thank you to the members of the Institute Council for an inspiring discussion, valuable insights, and their continued support in shaping the future development of Łukasiewicz – ITECH.
